We went to a friends wedding this weekend and the officiant (also the brides father) described a rule the (late) father of the groom always used to live by and try to instill in his children when they were growing up, and it really stuck with me. Everything in this life is dependent upon your attitude towards it. EVERYTHING. He used the common saying, life is 10% what happens and 90% how you respond to it. Truer words have never been spoken. Your attitude has the power to change any situation. And guess what? You get to choose your attitude. I know, it’s not always easy to control and it’s certainly not realistic to believe you can keep positive in any situation. But, we should try. It’s little things like making a conscious effort to stop complaining for a week or smiling at someone. Even giving someone a simple compliment can have a huge impact, not just on them, but on yourself as well. Am I nice all the time?…uh no. I am making the act of being nice a priority in my life and it’s coming together slowly but surely. My friend, Leighann, wrote a post about how kindness, no matter how small, can change your day. She’s an awesome example of someone who chooses to be kind and see the best in a situation.
At the end of the ceremony, he announced the happy couple and said, “Have a great life, it’s up to you.”
And it is.
